3 other Harriers gave of their best over the weekend. Sadly, silver medallist from the University Indoor championships, Zac Randall, was stuck in the stands with a hamstring injury but Jack Hillier (Durham University) ensured a good Wycombe performance in the 800m with 2 personal bests – he ran a hard front running race to ensure he made the semi finals where he finished 6th in a new pb of 1 min 55. Becca Jones was 6th in her heat of the 100m, also in a new pb of 13.3 and Isaac Nahoor fought hard in a very high quality heat of the 1500m to a time of 4.19. “What a great weekend” said Jack, summing it all up.

At the first Young Athlete’s League match in Bedford on Sunday Wycombe Phoenix Harriers Athletes were awarded Best Performing Athlete in three of the six age groups. This was particularly impressive as there were 6 teams competing.

Harry Sutherland, Under 15 boys, for his 13m 30cm shot putt. Harry won the Shot Putt competition by 3m 58cm. Harry also won the 80m hurdles with a pb of 12.1seconds. Just .1 seconds outside of the English Schools qualifying time.

Matthew Axe, u17 men, produced two English Schools qualifying times and was awarded Best Performance for his 4minute 24.9 seconds 1500m Steeplechase.
Rachel Ose Tutu, U17 Women, for her 41.7 second 300m win. Rachel was also in top form in the 200m with a time of 26.1 seconds

Pippa Woolven, from Wycombe Phoenix Harriers, became the first athlete to be presented with a gold medal in the new Olympic Stadium on Saturday. Running for Birmingham University in the British University Championships, which was being used as the test event for the new stadium, she won the women’s 2km steeplechase in a new personal best and championship record. Displaying better barrier and water jump technique throughout the race she reached the bell 15 metres adrift of Emily Stewart from Dundee, putting in a stunning last lap and catching Emily with every barrier Pippa took the lead just before the line and went on to win in 6 mins 36 sec, a new PB by 22 seconds . “When I reached the bell I thought – it’s a steeplechase, anything can happen. I’m feeling a bit emotional. I am so happy. Running in the stadium felt like it was the actual Olympics.” She was to be further surprised to wake up the next morning as a front page story in the national newspapers.
