A record number of Wycombe Phoenix Athletes’ preformed outstandingly at the prestigious English Schools Athletics competition in Birmingham this weekend.
Pippa Woolven – won the 1500m steeplechase in a new pb of 5m01. She ran a wise race on the shoulder of the leader (and the only girl faster than her this year) and kicked away with 500m metres to go. Her time is the fastest in the UK by an under 20 this year.
Zac Randall – got silver in the Senior Boys 800m. In typical style he stayed in contention for the first 650m then kicked hard to bring himself past several runners and into medal contention, missing out on gold by just 7 hundredths of a second in 1.51.16.
Shaquille Jack – was 3rd in the semi final of the 100m in his first English schools in 11.72.
Rachel Kelleher- competing for the first time at English Schools was 6th in her 300m hurdles heat in 47.30
Rachel Osie-Tutu – was 7th in her semi final of the 200m in 26.64 competing for the first time in the English Schools Championships ran aggressively through her 1st round heat to secure a semi-final place but was overpowered by stronger athletes at this stage despite a determined effort.
Ben Sutherland ran a strong heat to make the final but finished outside of the medals.
Julia Blackstock- sadly took a tumble in the 3K and was unable to finish.
