Senior Women 3x3km:
Running a hard 3km cross country on a windy Saturday afternoon was a little different for the trio of Lucy, Jess and Laura. That though is the beauty of a relay. It can often bring together lots of different types of runner, doing an unusual distance.

We weren’t in a position to enter any ladies teams in any relay events last year as we didn’t have much company for Lucy Rogers. This year though it is looking a lot more promising. Lucy led the team home in an excellent 7th place in 12.33. Jess Gray had a 50mile outing in the evening (pacing a friend of hers in an event!) A 13.26 clocking was obviously the ideal warm up and we were still well in the top 10. Next up an apprehensive Laura Street who was making her debut for the Club. With the Bournmouth marathon probably still in her legs from a couple of weeks before, Laura ran strongly in 13.33 to finish in 9th place. A very pleasing result and a lot to look forward to from our ladies team for the rest of the winter.

Our men’s team was looking pretty strong at lunchtime the previous Saturday. A bad fall though in the Chiltern lg and a bout of illness put an end to what might well have been a top 6 finish. Our senior section is getting better but we lack numbers and that showed this week. James Mcilroy and Kieran Gilfedder still turned out on the opening 2 5km legs. The former British 800m champion showed a bit of his speed down the finishing straight but unfortunately we have no idea of his or Kieran’s times. The last we heard, the South of England management was asking the host club to look through their rubbish bins to see if they could find the bit of paper with the SM times on! Farcical and a real dampner on what was otherwise a good event.
