Training in this group aims to develop athletes in the main endurance and middle distance events appropriate to their age and development, including track racing from 800m to 5k and steeplechase, as well as cross country.
This is achieved by developing the athlete’s aerobic and anaerobic capacity, which will include running at a variety of paces, strength and conditioning and the improvement of individual technical drills to aid running efficiency. It is important that athletes attend training sessions regularly to ensure that they are receiving the ‘full mix’ of training.
We try to run two additional training camps per year, usually residential.
We have recently trained in Merthyr Mawr in South Wales on the famous sand dune circuits.
As athletes mature, they need to train more if they are to reach their potential, so we encourage additional runs to be made on 1 or 2 of the days when there is no training.
